The event begins with a light reception at 6pm followed by the film at 7pm with discussion from partner organization experts about how to continue the collaborative push for social justice today. First American Art Magazine celebrates

First American Art Magazine (FAAM), a quarterly print and digital journal covering art by Indigenous peoples of the Americas, will celebrate its tenth anniversary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a free evening reception coinciding with Tulsa’s First Friday Art Walk on May 5, 2023, from 6 to 9 p.m. The reception will take place in the atrium at Archer Studios at the Tulsa Artist Fellowship, 109 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the public is invited to attend.
Complimentary copies of the current FAAM No. 38, Spring 2023 issue, stickers, and bookmarks will be available. Chef Nico Albert (Cherokee Nation) of Burning Cedar Indigenous Foods will cater the event and publishing editor America Meredith (Cherokee Nation) and contributing editor Stacy Pratt, PhD (Mvskoke) will share remarks.

The Temptations, often referred to as American Music Royalty, are world-renowned superstars of entertainment, revered for their phenomenal catalog of music and prolific career. The group celebrated their 60th Anniversary throughout 2022. To mark this milestone, The Temptations released a brand-new album, Temptations 60, with nearly all-original songs in January of 2022 and, toured in the U.S, as well as abroad to the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, in fall of 2022. Dr. Otis Williams, the sole surviving, original member of The Temptations, turned 81 on October 30 of 2022.

Grammy-award honoree, Songwriters Hall of Fame member, and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Don McLean remembers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson – “The Big Bopper” – and the pilot, Roger Peterson on the anniversary of the deadly plane crash just after their concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The fateful day was coined ‘The Day The Music Died’ by Don McLean in his hit “American Pie.” The song was released in 1971 and spent four weeks at No. 1 in 1972. In 2001, thirty years later, the Recording Industry of America named it the fifth greatest song of the 20th century.
