Editorial: Faith is personal, but people of faith have fought and died for generations to protect and defend this secular state known as the United States of America.
As a Christian, I see faith under attack by popular culture daily failing in truth and honor. The answer is not rage or dispute. The answer, for my house, is prayer and all are encouraged to join the National Day of Prayer today, Thursday May 3.
The hash tag is #PRAY4UNITY and the following scriptures (quoted from The Jerusalem Bible, 1966, LCCCN 66-24278) outline the plan for the day:
Pray 4 Unity in America – Ephesians 4:3, “Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together.”
Pray 4 Unity in the Church of America – Corinthians 1:10, “All the same, I do appeal to you, brothers, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, to make up the differences between you, and instead of disagreeing among yourselves, to be united again in your belief and practice.”
Pray 4 Unity in the families, workplaces, communities, and cities in America – 2 Chronicles 30:12, “It was in Judah, rather, that the hand of God worked to inspire them with a united will to obey the order of the king and the officials as contained in the word of Yahweh.”
Pray 4 Unity among all ethnicities and people in America – Ephesians 2:14, “For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one and broken down the barrier which used to keep them apart, actually destroying in his own person the hostility caused by the rules and decrees of the Law.”
Pray 4 Unity that we agree clearly, unite visibly, and pray extraordinarily for the next great spiritual awakening in America – Acts 1:14, “All these joined in continuous prayer, together with several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.”
