Today bestselling author Brian Kilmeade of the Fox News Channel will speak and sign copies of his new book THOMAS JEFFERSON AND THE TRIPOLI PIRATES: The Forgotten War That Changed American History at Barnes & Noble.
In the vein of his acclaimed bestseller George Washington’s Secret Six, THOMAS JEFFERSON AND THE TRIPOLI PIRATES tells the story of the American President who refused to “pay for peace” and the tiny flotilla he tasked with establishing America’s sovereignty on the high seas—which would go on to inspire the creation of the future U.S. Marine Corps.
In writing the book, Brian was reminded of the threats to our national security, in particular with Islamic extremist terror groups like ISIS that we’re still grappling with today.
With THOMAS JEFFERSON AND THE TRIPOLI PIRATES, Brian reveals the dramatic story of America’s first war on terror and the president who fought back.
In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripoli’s ambassador to Great Britain to ask him by what right his nation attacked American ships and enslaved American citizens. He claimed that the right was founded on the laws of their prophet and that it was written in the Koran that all nations that didn’t acknowledge their authority were sinners, and that not only was it their right and duty to make war upon these sinners wherever they could be found, but to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Muslim slain in battle was guaranteed a place in Paradise.
